COUNTRY DIRECTOR - REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

The Atlantic Philanthropies

Reference CD-68808

The Atlantic Philanthropies aims to bring about lasting changes in the lives of people who are disadvantaged or vulnerable. Established in Ireland in 1990 we are active in seven countries as well as Ireland. We make grants through our Ageing, Children & Youth and Reconciliation & Human Rights Programmes. We believe in making large philanthropic grants to help solve urgent social problems now and to date grants totalling 11b have been made in Ireland

Reporting to the Senior Vice President based in New York, we now wish to recruit a senior executive to the newly created role of Country Director – Republic of Ireland, who will lead the development, refinement, and implementation of grant making activities across all programme areas in the Republic of Ireland

The Country Director, working closely with a Senior Vice President and Programme Staff, will be responsible for identifying key issues of interest to Atlantic in the Republic of Ireland and for devising and leading the implementation of a Country Strategywhich builds on existing grants and identifies future opportunities to create lasting impact.

This creation of lasting impact through our work in the Republic of Ireland assumes greater urgency in the context of our decision to spend down the organisation’s endowment by 2016. This is in keeping with the Giving While Living philosophy of our founder, Charles “Chuck” Feeney.

The person appointed will be an experienced executive who is a strategic thinker with strong implementation skills and experience in managing professional teams. An excellent knowledge of political structures and a track record of strong sustained influencing relationships with key Government officials and leaders of civil society in the Republic of Ireland will be important prerequisites. Empathy with Atlantic’s aims and values, a commitment to Social Justice, together with tactical agility and a bias towards delivery will also be required.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to influence policies that will improve the lives of disadvantaged people.

Please write – in strictest confidence – to our retained consultant, Brian Ward, MERC Partners, 11/12 Richview Office Park, Clonskeagh, Dublin 14, Republic of Ireland; or email info@merc.ie stating how you meet the above requirements and enclosing a curriculum vitae, or telephone him for a confidential exploratory discussion on +353 1 2066700.
