The National Concert Hall
The National Concert Hall is one of Ireland’s most prestigious cultural venues. Attracting over 350,000 visitors annually and hosting almost 700 events, it is the designated home of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. It has a unique position in our cultural landscape and is world class in its offering. Its mission is to entertain, educate and engage through exceptional musical experiences and performances by providing a stimulating programme that nurtures and advances the development and promotion of music. Due to the retirement of the incumbent, MERC Partners has been retained by the Board to recruit a Chief Executive to lead the organisation in the next phase of its development.
Reporting to the Chairman and to the Board, the ideal candidate will have the appropriate mix of commercial experience and knowledge of the performing arts and will have the bearing and gravitas to lead the organisation at a time of tremendous change in the sector, both domestically and internationally. He/she will exude integrity and conviction and will naturally instil credibility and confidence.
The successful candidate will see complexities in the market as challenges and opportunities for The National Concert Hall and will have the vision, in conjunction with the Board and the management team, to build and develop the strategies necessary to meet the needs of all stakeholders. In doing so, he/she will draw on the depth and wealth of experience that is vested in the wider organisation and the Board to deliver artistic acclaim and commercial success.
In addition to possessing a deep affinity and enthusiasm for music and the wider performing arts, the appointee will require well-honed commercial and organisational development skills, coupled with a track record of leadership and management. Candidates must be exceptional communicators with the ability to engage, influence and serve as an ambassador for the organisation, including to a mass audience through the broadcast, print and on-line media. Commercially astute business drivers with strategic vision and flair, the ability to anticipate opportunities for the organisation, combined with strong negotiation abilities will be important. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate an intuitive sense of customer needs as well as a passion for nurturing talent and developing the next generation of executive leadership.
